In order to start your driving journey you will first need to hold a provisional driving licence. In most cases you must be 17 years old to start lessons although if you are claiming the higher rate of P.I.P. you can start at 16 years old. You can begin to take lessons either from an Approved Driving Instructor or with a family member. To be able to drive by yourself will you first need to pass the Theory Test and then apply for and pass your Practical Driving Test. Below you will find links to help you get started.
Apply for your provisional driving licence:
Before an instructor lets you drive they should complete a licence check. To do this they will need the last 8 characters of your licence number and a check code from the DVLA. To get this click the link below and complete the online form. alternatively cakll them on 0300 083 0013
The theory test consists of 2 sections
The first section is a set of 50 multiple choice questions
The second section consists of 14 Hazard Perception videos
